GCE and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The UN Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a peace and prosperity map for all member nations. At it's heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a call for action to end poverty and improve livelihoods, equality and health, all while protecting the environment and addressing climate change. Go Conscious Earth works hard to contribute to these goals, here is how we do it:
-
SDG 1. No Poverty.
The most effective means of eliminating poverty for forest-dependent people is through legal recognition of their customary land rights. Our approach is to support communities to establish land security, food security, and sustainable income-generating initiatives.
-
SDG 2. Zero Hunger.
We are gearing up for sustainable agricultural training for families and communities who have been food-insecure and malnourished.. Those who go through sustainable agriculture training become teachers themselves, passing on vital knowledge to benefit others.
-
SDG 5. Gender Equality.
Women deserve access to education, healthcare, and family planning. They belong in decision-making processes such as participatory planning and village governance. We aim to improve their overall well-being and empowerment, while increasing opportunities for income-generation.
-
SDG 6. Clean Water.
Setting our project apart from many other clean water initiatives with poor long-term success, our Water Team is trained in well-drilling proficiency and maintenance, while providing local employment. To date, we have installed 17 deep-water wells, supplying clean water to over 34,000 people.
-
SDG 11. Sustainable Communities.
We partner with communities to develop income projects that conserve rainforest, protect wildlife, and improve livelihoods. We implement sustainable development projects such as regenerative agriculture, solar energy, fish farming, and cocoa production - all income-generating initiatives that increase yields while reducing deforestation.
-
SDG 13. Climate Action.
Our conservation and climate change mitigation efforts are led in partnership with local and indigenous forest-dependent communities who seek to alleviate pressure on their forests. We work together on solar, fuel tree nurseries, and efficient cookstoves for protection of carbon-storing rainforests and peat bogs essential to global climate stability.
-
SDG 15. Life on Land.
Combating threats to endangered species and biodiversity is at the heart of our mission. We work to maintain rainforests and wildlife habitat through community-centered forest management and conservation, implementing sustainable solutions where communities, wildlife, and forest can thrive together.
