Clean Water

At Go Conscious Earth, we believe the connection between nature and human beings must be treated with dignity and respect. This means supporting people as they protect their rainforest homes and empowering them through initiatives like clean water.

Alleviating Poverty and Improving Lives

In early meetings with Village Councils, there was unanimous agreement that clean water was a high priority for people living there, and it has since been a major initiative for Go Conscious Earth.

To date, we have installed 17 deep water wells, supplying clean water to over 34,000 people. Because there are no roads in this region, well drilling companies can’t get their drilling rigs to these remote villages, and most people draw their water directly from the lake which is contaminated due to lack of sanitation. Additionally, the hand dug wells villagers draw from are shallow, subject to contamination, and often go dry during periods of drought.

To remedy this problem we purchased the Village Drill, a human-powered borehole drill. Developed for remote areas, the Village Drill is able to be disassembled and transported by hand or dug-out canoe, though it drills to the same depth as commercial rigs that can only be transported by large trucks.

The GCEarth Clean Water Team

In 2015, Go Conscious Earth established the Water Team, a group of villagers now trained in well-drilling proficiency. We’ve created jobs for local people and the ability to build hundreds of high quality drilled wells at a fraction of the cost of conventional well drilling in the DRC. Simultaneously, the Water Team serves to maintain the functionality of existing wells, setting our project apart from many other clean water initiatives with poor long-term success.

With melting ice caps, polluted oceans and uncertain weather, we wonder if we are doing enough to protect the environment. At Go Conscious Earth, we go to the root of the trouble, offering empowering solutions that conserve rainforest by encouraging local people to protect their own vital, life-sustaining ancestral forests, for the generations.
